ahm
I was back in camp the previous evening for an early dinner and early lights off cos we had to wake up at 0215hrs this morn. We boarded our buses for padang at ard 0300hrs and arrived there at 0415hrs. How early is that man!?! We sat at our designated area at padang and had to wait until ard 0600hrs b4 our 21km army half marathon (AHM) started. It's been a really long time since I last passed by City Hall and seeing the half completed dome-shaped building, I was really surprised and din noe wat building it was but it looked beautiful to me, haha. Only aft the whole run did I recall a newspaper article some time ago describing that as the design for the state-of-the-art extension of the City Hall! =P
Back to the 21km run...The starting 20mins was very irritating and it was really slow for me cos everyone was squeezed together. I occasionally found openings in front of me and will push myself 4ward but ending up being blocked by another big grp of ppl. This on and off short bursts of runs tires me out faster than keeping a constant pace lorz. Only aft 20mins of such runs did the whole bunch of ppl open up as some ppl sped up while others maintained their pace. That was when I sped up and tried to keep at a constant faster-than-usual pace in order to try and make the timing I've set for myself (which is to finish 21km within 2.5hrs).
The upslope along sheare's bridge was surprisingly less siong than I expected and the beginning was rather enjoyable as my legs were fresh. So the run went on and on, seemingly never-ending and I ran past a lot of ppl, overtaken by a lot of ppl as well. In between the run, there were many water points set up for us to take a quick drink which I did in most of them lorz. Those short moments gave me a little time to jus stop running n wet my mouth. I also poured a portion of the cup of water over my head to keep myself cool, hehe.
By the time I ran past 17+km already, my thighs were very tight (the muscles feel very hard lorz) and so it was very hard to keep my strides wide and they began shrinking. I persevered and at 20km, had some 'encouragement' from some cheer leaders duno frm where wan larz...haha, it's really funny lorz, a grp of 5 doing the usual stunts of lifting a ger up high blah blah blah and they cheered for the runners (it was funnier than encouraging seriously...hehe). It was the 20KM board which was the most encouraging and I pushed on and finally saw the big clock at the end pt. I was pleased to have clocked a timing of 2h 27m 10s, within the target I set for myself, haha (but now I'm experiencing the aftmath of my hardwork, my knees chui4 already....my muscles dun feel that bad cos I've applied rubbed them wif counter pain...haha). Yeh, 21km completed! A rather great achievement for me, the furthest I've ever ran in my 19+yrs! =P
