the time traveler's wife

Yup, I'm currently reading this bk, nearing the end actually. It's a very interesting story about this guy, Henry, wif a gene disorder which allows him to time-travel. Actually 'allow' isn't such a good description cos he has no control over it. It happens most often when he feels negative feelings like frustration.

When Henry was 36, he time-travels and meets a girl named Clare who's only six(the first time they meet). The funny part about him time travelling is that he usually appears in another time naked. As a result, he realises the need to learn to steal things, break into houses etc. Along the way, when Henry time-travels back to the past and sees his young self, he teaches the boy, himself actually, those important skills for survival. He appears at the girl's house during some of his travels and they kind of became friends, lovers and eventually, husband and wife.

When he was 28 and Clare was 20, they met at a library where he works and interestingly, she knows everything about him and he knows absolutely nothing about her (cos he only meets her the first time when he's 26, remember?). Along the way, she sort of guides him along so that he'll ultimately become the Henry whom Clare knows.

It's humorous in certain ways but is ultimately a sad love story larz. Imagine the kind of feelings Clare goes through when Henry suddenly disappears and she has to wait (for how long even Henry doesn't know) for his return.

Another sad part of the story is how Henry actually survived a car crash because of his illness, but his mother getting killed in the accident. Just on impact, his fear caused him to time travel and return minutes later after the accident nearby. As he grows up, he time travels back to that moment very often, seeing his mum being killed. It's really very sad...He's got to go through the feeling of losing his mum again and again as he grows up.

At different points in time, the author narates the story through the perspective of Clare and then Henry. Very creative, very interesting. This book is a must-read for readers...

mind over heart? pretty tough

After much persistance, I gave up on my sweetheart(jus someone I like larz) mths ago. It was a tough but rational decision, she wants to concentrate on her studies, not interested in getting into any relationship, or so she told me. My advances were rejected, what else could I do right?

Well, until now, still feel quite xin suan sometimes lar. It's pretty tough to let it go, is it not? Some of those personality tests or horoscope stuff say my first love will last forever. I hope not! But so far, it's been truth larz, wonder if it's the personality tests affecting me or they're really true lorz.

Still remember how I used to crack my head thinking of what we might talk about whenever I see her online. It's kinda tough when we dun share similar interests or hobbies. When she was still schooling and I msg her first, I literally put my head on the chopping board sia. The reply will definitely be a request for help on schoolwork. What would you do if your sweetheart asks for help? Help lar. After some time, felt kinda sad larz, always hoping something might happen, nothing happening in the end. Guess I just failed miserably to make an impact...

So far, the best way out of this 'sadness' is to keep myself busy. I tend to think a lot when I've got nothing better to do, tt is, especially when I'm stoning or just relaxing. Guess time will erode it away eventually but until then, hai, suck thumb like we say in the army.

chalet!

The annual-if-possible 4/1 chalet was held from friday til this morn and man, it was great! For the first time, we decided having steamboat instead of the usual barbeque which was messy, unhealthy and required a lot of prep work. Not everyone could come immediately on the first day's aftnoon so me, Yihua, granddaughter and Hanwei went to Taman Jurong Sheng Siong to shop for food and stuff for the chalet on Friday aftnoon.

Lol, you really don't hafta worry abt health wif Yihua ard. He bought lotsa vegies, which me and Xiao Tao thought was too much, but in the end, I guess it was just nice, haha. He definitely seemed to be shopping for Yong Tau Foo ingredients though.

So it was just the 4 of us who first checked in and Fuying joining us a little later but our first steamboat also included Yi En, Bear and Jennifer. We din have the 'lively' people wif us so our first nite was rather quiet. After dinner we watched Monsters' Inc and decided catching the movie Perhaps Love at ard midnight. We had 13 people watching the movie by then...

By the time I got to bed, it was already 4am, haha, shudn't sleep during chalet right...bo bian lar...tired.. We had brunch at the food court before going for K-lunch at Tampines. Sian lar, I'm always out-of-place whenever I go KTV no matter the grp. People sing C-pop while I can only sing C-oldies and English songs(K-Box has a super lousy collection of english songs, and their MTVs are not the originals). In the end, I only sang my fav Wherever You Will Go but I was happy lar, lol.

We rented movies from Laserflair and went back for a 2nd steamboat session. 40-yr-old Virgin was a very lousy show in my opinion but we went on to watch The Exorcist and Boogeyman. I was dead-tired by then lorz, the 2 'scary' shows did not do enough to capture my attention and keep me awake. I was nodding off from time to time during the shows and in the end surrendered to the bed by 3am this morn.

Last day, what else but lotsa photo taking here and there lorz. Most of us were reluctant to just part lidat since we dun usually get the chance to have a get-together. After breakfast, we went to JP Swensens to eat ice-cream and tok cok a little before parting ways hoping for another gathering soon lorz.

I was quite surprised I enjoyed the chalet a lot lorz. Lost touch wif a lot of frens le but still can mix during the chalet =) Nxt yr might be our last class chalet cos the main organiser, Qiu Jie going overseas to further his studies le, hopefully somehow can still continue this tradition larz, like it lots =P
