shear class!!

Post-Shearer era has begun since May and after stumbling upon this youtube video of Shearer's top 10 goals of his career, as a Newcastle Utd fan, can't help but miss him badly. It's a pretty big shoe for anyone to fill with Michael Owen out for practically the whole season. I just wonder if it's a curse or something, Michael Owen not making a lot of appearances in black and white since his £17m move. Then came Oba last week and he got injured in his first match! Well, do check it out, 10 great goals from the legendary no.9...

whoa

Whoa, it's already August 31, end of week 3 in sch le! It's been quite enjoyable even though I'm starting to feel the heat, spending hours on 1 maths tutorial, trying to kickstart the dusty cogwheels of my retarded-by-NS brain.

Our MA1505(Maths) lecturer Victor Tan is good, easy to understand language, step-by-step JC-style powerpt slides with injections of occasional humour (pretty lame but acceptable, haha). Our MLE1101 lectures starring Dr Xue with his fathomless language is very challenging (it's not an easy module as well). The last of Dr Xue's lectures I attended, I was a few minutes late. After I settled down, and since I was tired cos I din sleep well the previous night, it took me a full 10 minutes before I fine-tuned my hearing to understand what he was lecturing sia. Usually have to double process his words before I can absorb the meaning, keke. Prof Lee teaching GEK2500(Living wif Chem)? The typical lame chem teacher, boring lessons, always nod off from time to time, zzz. GEK1527(Genes and Soc) was pretty challenging initially but aft reading up the book, the lectures are starting to get interesting.

Of course, my circle of friends is gradually widening especially today aft I attended the MLE tutorial wif my class for the first time. Our fellowship of muggers (Me, Yanru, Vivian, Wen You)are also reunited here at the Central Library with additional members like Frederick and soon-to-be-reunited Jefferson, lol. Group study is good, boosts ur morale to do work eh, haha.

So far I've never eaten at Techno Edge which is pretty wierd since it's my fac's canteen, lol. Also duno why lar, jus dun feel like eating there. Been frequenting the Deck at Arts, which is about to close for a long time for renovations and upgrading, and having lunch at Science since I'm having my GEM lessons there. Met quite a few old friends here and there, all over NUS, lol. Feels good to see them eh. This week I might have over-mugged a little since my engines aren't well warmed up yet sia, falling ill le, lol. Hope things carry on this way, hek.

css carnival!

Never done so much in a day and felt sooo happy in a long long time. Had to get to CSS early in the morn (9am actually, lol) to man the stall set up by CSSSCA but wif my parents overseas, I got to use the car! (finally!) Took Clarabelle to school wif me since she lives within walking dist from my house lorz. Used to be lazy to bring my cam, but end up never get the photos I'm in, learnt my lesson and brought my own! (hekhek).

When we got there, only Yihua, Yoke Chong and the uncle (still duno his name aft being wif him the whole day, so wierd..) were there and I was immediately called to action (man the stall). Initially our customers was always those few persistent guys who couldn't score enough shots to win the soft toys (for their gf probably =.=). I think I saw one coming back another 2 times, each time spending abt $10 worth of coupons (duno wat the hell was he thinking).

The first group of my old buddies to come visit our stall were Min Yang, Yong Yun and Chong Leng.

For once, I take a picture wif my juniors!

After a few hrs at the booth, I buay tahan went along wif James to take photos at our old classrooms and chanced upon other classmates, whaha, so heng... Some of my former 1A, 2A classmates in the photo namely Harith, Mutalib, James, me, Min Yang, Ting Wei, Qiwen, Julia and Siyun.

Well, I guess this will be one of my greatest days before the horrendously busy uni life begins. Will definitely miss my sec schmates lots, hope to see them again!

happy national day

Happy National Day! Happy jus cos it's a holiday lar, what else can you be happy about on this day? =x

After being involved in NDP for the 2yrs of my NS, marching in the 1st yr and road marshalling in the 2nd, this year's NDP holds no significance for me (not tt I like being involved lar, siaoz). The other reason is that our family has been attending the NDP for almost 5 consecutive years before I entered NS and cannot join them as I'm involved in the parade. The only part of the show tt I really look forward to is just the fireworks eh. Spectacular. And to see the best fireworks, you gotta be at the NDP on the actual day when they fire the most fireworks. Fireworks during rehearsals are much lesser than the actual day's. Well, tt's all abt ND.

For the 2nd time in the week, I had to wake up early. Not as early as yesterday for the CSS Prize Presentation, but around 9am to ferry my mum to her hairdresser's. She's a regular customer of this hairdresser's at Jurong West, which is quite far away from our house, and I was tasked to ferry her there. Who'd miss an opportunity to drive the car when you don't see it almost all the time but glances during the wkends and you have a licence?!

Now it's only 10.45am wif a large part of the day ahead of me, shiok. When there's no activities planned for the day, I'd usually wake up at ard this time or later. You always hear advices about sleeping early and waking early being good for health. I see another better reason to wake up early eh, you seem to have more time... Normally I wake up at ard 11am or later and feels like half the day is already gone! Night falls before long and seems like there's no time to do something fruitful. The only catch here? SLEEP EARLY. That seems like a tall order for me, someone who stays online most of the time. Online activities are busiest at ard midnight and beyond eh. I'll be missing a big part of the action if I sleep say, before midnight?

frens of css

Went to the National Day Celebration cum Awards ceremony for CSS today to get a Friends of CSS thingy. Lol, not bad sia, got a plaque somemore, something to show my parents! They always like to tease me about going back to CSS. "Go back for wat? Be sar kar (3rd leg, meaning kpo -_-") ar?"

Seems like the practice of going back to CSS might be dying out soon since most of the teachers tt used to teach our batch of students have left already, the only familiar faces left at CSS are Mdm Chang, Mdm Aishah and Mrs Catherine Yeo who's gonna retire nxt yr =(

Besides that, they're moving to a new campus (former RV spot) which is near my house but it doesn't hold the wonderful memories which my batch of students have at the old ground. While still trying hard to hold on to the fond memories of my sec sch life, it's also time to try to adapt to new life at NUS. Jus signed up for NES(NUS Entreprenuership Society), not really knowing wat to expect yet lar, hopefully can learn something useful :) I guess I'll also be joining Toastmasters, hopefully can pick up skills to improve my public speaking and presentation skills, definitely useful.

cheers to cors!

Finally get a taste of uni life which i yearned for so long and it already sux. Cheers to CORS!

Allocated 3 core mods in the 1st sem and recommended to take a SS mod and a GEM. 250 points only, how to bid?!? The seniors have a slight advantage and they really make full use of it, dumping points into a mod they die-die-mus-have, putting us, the freshies immediately out of the race. The system allocated 750 P points for me from which only 2 points was deducted for those allocated mods... the other 748 totally useless. They give me 250 G points which I'll definitely totally use up if I wana get my non-engin-fac mods sia... *puke*

Hmm, what if i only have 4 mods in the 1st sem... Ho seh liaoz...

the lake house

Hmm, went for the movie last night wif Jeff at JP aft the welcome session for Engin students at NUS. Everyone else had plans so the two of us set off for dinner at JP and then to the movies.

A great show, interesting plot, kinda confusing for ppl who's encountering time travelling shows for the first time. This one is different in the sense that the characters do not travel through time, it's just that Kate Foster(starring Sandra Bullock, lao chio ;)) is able to communicate with Alex Wyler(starring Keanu Reeves, lao shuai ;)) who's 2 years behind her(meaning Kate in 2006 writes letters to Alex in 2004).

xxx People who intend to watch the show, do not read on xxx

The show starts wif Kate in 2006 on Valentine's Day trying to save a man who got knocked down by a car but failed. As a doc, she felt terrible for failing to save tt man and drove off far away from town ending up at the lake house to ease her mind. She notices tt there are letters in the letter box unread by the former tenant of the lake house and decides to help correspond to the letters.

Aft a couple of times "sending" and "receiving" letters in the mailbox, both Kate in 2006 and Alex in 2004 realised that they're corresponding to someone at a different time. It's sweet how they're able to make the opposite feel they're there for each other. Alex mails Kate a map with a plotted route around town as though he's taking her out for a walk. Kate on the other hand, requests for Alex to be at the train station in his time cos she left something behind which meant a lot to her, wanting him to deliver it to her.

Things start to complicate when one day Alex's dog(which showed up out of nowhere when he was renovating his new house) ran away and stopped at Kate's boyfriend's house in 2004. He helped the stranger wif his drinks into the house and was invited to Kate's birthday party tt night. As it happens, Kate doesn't like her bf making a big deal out of her birthday, not liking a birthday bash actually. Halfway throught the bash, Alex encountered Kate just outside the house and tried to strike a conversation with her. Alex knows her so well but Kate in 2004 doesn't know Alex at all (awww..). After a while, initiated by Kate, they danced to the music from the house on the street and ended up kissing each other, being seen by Kate's bf.

The next day, Alex corresponded to Kate in 2006 saying he'd want to meet her and she wrote back stating to meet the next day in 2006 for dinner at tt famous diner in town where you'll never get a place unless u make reservations at least 3mths ahead. Here's the sweet and cute part... Alex in 2004 goes to the diner and reserves 2yrs in advance, much to the surprise of the receptionist.

That gets everyone excited and as could be anticipated, Alex failed to turn up. One starts thinking why since it's impossible he'd miss it for the world. Kate was totally dissapointed and mailed Alex in 2004 telling him that it's not gonna work out(aww....) and that she should move on. Aft trying to mail letters to Kate in 2006 and Kate not reading them, Alex moves out of the lake house and stops corresponding to her. The harsh reality though, was that they couldn't forget each other.

In 2007, Kate gets back together with her bf and when she approached a firm(on Valentine's Day) to help her rebuild her own apartment, she chances upon a drawing in the firm of the lake house which was done by none other than Alex. Only then did she realise that Alex failed to turn up because he was the man she failed to save on the street one year back.

That's when she rushes back to the lake house sending a letter back to Alex in 2005 hoping he gets the warning in time to avoid the accident. In the letter she tells him to be patient in 2006, not to cross the road when he sees her, and that she's at the lake house in 2007 on Valentine's (aww....). And as anyone can guess, he turns up to meet her...Sweet... The suspense part where she mails the letter hoping Alex receives it was quite unbearable really, me in hopeful anticipation that he doesn't cross the road and appears in front of her, lol.
