perth

Yupz, it's another family vacation to Australia for me, this time to Perth. This was the best time to have it since I'm just out of NS waiting to enter uni and my bro is waiting to start school in poly. A week before we went there, temperatures in Perth even soared to a high of 37 degrees and all of us decided to bring 'summer clothing', leaving behind our jackets, windbreakers, sweaters etc in Singapore. A terrible decision. Throughout my stay, temperatures hovered between just 20 to 24 degrees except our last day there when the bright sun raised the temperature to something more bearable. There were even drizzles occasionally. Luckily it all turned out well in the end and the wierd climate did not affect our visit very much.

Perth is in the same time zone as Singapore so there was no time difference when we made the trip. Coupled wif a morning flight, there was no jet-lag to handle which was excellent. But our first day, supposedly a free aftnoon was all taken up by a slow clearance at the customs and a late transport to our hotel. It was kinda disappointing when we reached our hotel cos it was on the side of the city that was 'lifeless'. Aussies lead a good working life lorz, their working day ends at 5pm. By 7+pm, the streets near our hotel is almost like streets in Singapore at midnight. On one of the days, our day trip ended early and we explored further from our hotel and found a pretty big shopping mall of some sort (cos it's jus lotsa shophouses along a pedestrian street wif a few slightly taller buildings owned by big departmental stores). We only managed to shop there on our free day cos we got there at around 8pm the first time and all shops were closed.

The places of interest we went were the Pinnacles, the Wave Rock and a cruise to see dolphins at a bay I can't remember it's name. We went on our own by train to Frementle which was famous for its market, though I'd say the market at Sydney was better. On the last day before returning to Singapore, we had a free morn and decided to go find the 'legendary' shop called Corica which apparently sells the best apple strudels in the world. We bought 2 long ones(they don't sell small pieces, one long piece for A$14) and only ate it when we got back to Singapore. Well, I don't eat much apple strudels to compare it wif others but it's definitely very very very good. My mum's colleague said it's a die-die-must-try thing if we go to Perth or we'll regret it. I agree...
Ultimately, the best memories of Perth left in me aren't any of the photos I had taken. The freedom that was felt along the way to the places of interest, seeing the cattle, sheep or horses grazing on vast pastures set wif a backdrop of blue sky wif thin clouds... The friendly Aussies you can meet anywhere along the streets... Really envy the people that live there...

Well, they say a picture say a thousand words, so here are some pics I took...

The Pinnacles

My personal favourite among the thousands and millions there.

Halfway up Wave Rock.

Spectacular scenery taken on Wave Rock.

Me at Perth train station on the way to Frementle.

Corica, selling the best apple strudels in the world since 1972 (if i didn't remember wrongly...)

ord lohz

Yupz, the day has finally arrived. My approximately 2.5yrs' brief stint in NS has come to an official end. So much has happened these past 2yrs... First it was getting to know and mix around with the non-A'level people which was a great experience. Then it was the loss of my grandpa which was bound to happen as his health deteriorated at the beginning of last yr. Me giving up on my pri sch sweetheart which I finally concluded, was never meant to be. Losing touch with most of my friends, kept just a few really really great ones in JC, not forgetting the revived contacts from my sec sch. Having gone AWOL from CSSSCA during my NS time, I've finally attended one of their recent meetings.

Hmm, heading towards the uni stage of my life, still very much looking forward to it even though the feedback I've gotten from gals at my age, already 3 yrs into their uni, is very very negative indeed. Seems like there's nothing fun to look forward to in uni lorz. But ultimately, I guess it's still better than being stuck back in camp wif a rigid routine and much rules to abide by, not forgetting having to report to someone wherever you're going, not much decisions to be made by yourself on whatever you want to do. Getting caught by superiors for hair which people outside will wonder why you're gonna visit the barber when there's like nothing much to cut. But undeniably, I've learnt a lot in the army larz. The most useful of which is to go ahead and do something which you dislike very much without lamenting cos it just has to be done. This useful skill can be summarised in two words, "suck thumb".

Gonna turn 21 soon, have just decided that the celebration won't be a big bang. Too troublesome, hafta rack my brains who I might wana invite, forget it, lol. The freedom felt these days clearing my leave/off is simply wonderful. Sleeping and waking as late as you want, getting to watch football matches which I'll usually miss on Sundays, even better still, the Champions League matches on wkdays! I guess I'll have to enjoy this freedom to do things I like while I still can cos it's full-speed ahead once August comes.

Nowadays I really wonder what's the point in agreeing on a time to meet when no one sticks to it? Late-coming from everyone is getting from bad to worse and even worst. Right now, I'm gonna commit myself not to be early for any meetings wif my frens le, some exceptions I'll just keep to myself larz. Nobody's on time these days, NOBODY. Very few people are bothered to make sure they don't keep others from waiting. It's not surprising to find someone still in bed at home when it's already past the time to meet. It's happened to me so many times. Being early and having to wait for late-comers, which is almost everyone. That doubles the supposed waiting time for me usually, sianz to the max.

Feelin' kinda low these few days, hopefully can get the stuff that are bugging me sorted out when the time is right.
