newcastle 3 - 0 blackburn
Well, haven't made an entry in ages! I guess all my regulars are gone by now, haha. Anyway, there wasn't much happening to talk abt til now...Newcastle wins their 1st game of the season!!
Before I get into that, I was supposed to be back in camp by now le, we had a long wkend since wednesday nite for most ppl in my company while I had the luxury of returning on wednesday morning clearing an extra day-off wif the platoon 5 ppl for our Ops duty over last wkend. Little did I expect a phone call from my platoon sgt on Thurs aftnoon telling me that I have to do day-guard on Friday! Well, in return, he allow me to clear the off tml instead lorz, giving me the chance to stay at home tonight. This kinda tyco thing has nvr happened to me lorz. Newcastle's game is shown on tv at 9pm! If I had to return to camp, I would've missed the game...
Under the 'wonderful' Grame Souness, who has spent near £50m since his arrival at St. James's, equalled Chelsea's summer spending spree this season, bringing in the likes of Owen, Solano, Luque, Emre & Parker, one would definitely expect something from the team, at least a Uefa Cup spot nxt yr lorz.
The first half of the game was totally SHIT SHIT SHIT. Newcastle's play was simply horrendous! The summary of the first half show that Newcastle had ZERO shots whether on or off target. Newcastle din seem to have a game plan at all. When defenders receive a goal kick from Given, they hold the ball very long, bringing it forward, no midfielders seem to be running into position for them to pass along. Most of the time, the defender holds the ball too long, the opponent attackers close them down, and they'll pass back to Given to lob a long ball forward. No one gets to the long balls, and it's Blackburn's turn to attack. Makes it seem as though Grame Souness is revolutionising football sia(hope u hear the sarcasm =P). The defenders become the playmakers, and Given is expected to lob superb killer passes to Shearer to head down for Owen to score a goal! Owen only had one 1/2 chance which was much lesser than 1/2 in the first half. Blackburn was also playin' shitty football but they seem to have better passing, creating more chances, more shots on target. There seems to be no way Newcastle are gonna get anything from this game...
2nd half was slightly better, but Newcastle still din have any clear-cut chances for the strikers to convert until the free kick jus outside the box very near the line. People who know football can tell from my description... A SHEARER CLASSIC IN THE MAKING!! True enough, the talisman scores the free kick and tt kick-started Newcastle's engine. Proper passing started flowing, wif the midfielders finally playin' the ball. N'Zogbia played very well the whole game(thought he deserved a man-of-the-match...) and he crossed a beautiful ball in for Owen to score an excellent near post header tt the keeper had no chance...OWEN SCORES HIS 1ST GOAL!!! I was absolutely ecstatic for him sia...the top-class striker proves his class, converting wif the few chances he's been given. In the first half when I saw Owen play, felt heartache sia, he shud b waiting for balls to be passed to him lorz. Instead, he has to run back a little to get the ball, and help along wif the passing along midfield even along the wings...HAI. The match was capped off wif a third goal scored by N'Zogbia wif him breaking the offside trap by Blackburn and a confident one-on-one wif Brad Friedel.
Of course, Newcastle's midfield today is actually mainly 2nd string of players lorz, wif Emre, Solano, Dyer, Parker all out wif injuries. Therefore, hopefully they'll return fast and provide Shearer and Owen wif plenty more good chances to score many many goals in the many many more games to come. This game shud serve as a platform to kick-start Newcastle's climb up the table away from relegation lorz...I still hope Newcastle can find a much better manager larz...The players are there le...Jus the manager hindering Newcastle's challenge at the top of EPL...
