colonised!

Our 4D3N FWC came to an end yesterday wif a big downpour delaying everyone's departure. We were quite unlucky as rain also prevented us from having all the beach games as planned, quite disappointing since we paid so much to get everyone down at Siloso beach eh.

I've learnt quite a bit joining the o-com for this camp. It wasn't really easy for me having to work with people I'm not familiar with unlike in the past when I get to work with people I've known pretty well for years. It's more "real" I guess. It got easier bit by bit as I interacted and get to know everyone better. It was really worthwhile getting out of my comfort zone heh.

Hiccups occured along the way, and I realised that spontaneous decisions made on the ground by the key people (I mean those responsible for the events) allowed the camp to continue running smoothly. If there's any camp that ran perfectly according to plan, something is really wrong, hahaha. I'm not sure if it was just my personal opinion that the duties were not properly distributed among the com members, some coms having to do stuff which I felt shud've been done by others.

Well, on to the camp itself eh. It started off pretty well on the 1st day as our timings were all met. The game in which I was the station master was really fun to watch eh, the 2 OGs having to line up across each other with a net in between. They were supposed to make a "bubble" stay afloat and try to score a pt by making it land on the opposite side. Everyone had their fair share of laughter seeing all the freshies blowing as hard as they could when the "bubble" floated towards their side. The other game involved the whole OG lined up in a circle, stretching their arms (1 arm each) inwards allowing a hula loop to rest on their index finger. Their objective was to lower the hula loop to the ground while everyone's finger maintained contact wif the loop. It seemed and sounded very easy but when you play it yourself, you'll understand that it is very difficult as everyone were not sure how fast they should lower their arms and if your finger leaves contact you'll quickly lift your arm upwards and if anyone panics a little, the hula loop will be elevated.

Then came the night treasure hunt which many freshies felt ridiculous and pointless. (as usual) I was attached to Virra as game I/C and wow, they were the only group to have found all the cards at every checkpoint. This game was supposed to let the freshies know their way ard sch but I don't think it has ever worked in any camps because it is usually the OGLs who lead the way while the freshies just tag along and since everyone's always running around, you don't really have time to commit the places to memory, lol.

We had the Amazing Race on Day 2 which I'm sure everyone thoroughly enjoyed. I was in charge of a game stationed at the Cenotaph which they named cheekily, "I think or I suck". All the teams but one chose to suck two 2-litre bottles of Coke with 16 straws provided (4 straws to be joined together as one). The other game involved a puzzle which they had to refer to the names on the Cenotaph and then decode it with 4 common mtds shown to them on the paper.

Some of the station masters, together with me, rushed back to the chalet to prepare for Fright Night. My initial duty was kinda tough to do, having to multi-task a little eh. But my props were spoilt before I could really use them and I ended up just grabbing the freshies' legs from under the table while they answer a ringing phone on the table. My station was a flop during our dry run as it was too bright and I guess everyone anticipated it eh. But it was a complete success during the actual camp itself as we improved on the place, covering up all the windows with newspapers making it very dark. My station was also marked as a station where a task had to be completed so I guess when the freshies answered the phone, they were concentrating hard to hopefully hear some clear instructions, only to be frightened by me popping from under the table and grabbing their legs. It was greatly improved from our 1 dry run and I guess from the screams of most of the freshies, it was a success.

Day 3 involved the beach games and we only managed to play 1/2 the games planned due to wet weather. Nothing much to say about here, besides the fact that it was friendly competition amongst all the OGs unlike last year's beach games eh, when all the OGs were very competitive and in fact there was some displeasure between certain OGs as well. Then it was on to SP Night when there was insufficient food and well, the pageant contestants seemed to put in much more effort than those last year, haha.

Usually on the final night, I'll make sure I get some rest before breaking camp the following day eh. However, this time, I tagged along with Sora (some of the OGLs are gd frens of mine in sch) and wow, we had supper and spent the whole night playing those orientation kinda games (with forfeits as well) til dawn. Really shagged out but enjoyed myself a lot. I guess we hafta gear ourselves up for sch reopening eh... Here I come Year 2... *puke*
